Madeira - How to travel

        *****Travel conditions*****

Given the actual situation with Covid restrictions, the entrance in Madeira is conditioned by the completion of the epidemiological questionnaire which must be filled 12 up to 48 hours before boarding in the plane.

The other documents regarding Portugal entrance, can be found here (IC / passport, Covid vaccination certificate / Covid test), or by visiting your local Ministry of Foreign Affairs site, searching Madeira.

        *****Transport*****

Being an island, it’s very hard to get vehicles. Therefore, you can either reserve a car rental, or you can use the local bus.

We opted to rent a car from Auto Rent a Car just to have that flexibility that it is offering you and to have it available at our own disposal anytime we want it. We used it a lot, everyday, and we just explored some parts of the island.

They have a few main roads which you will be driving on A LOT everytime you want to get somewhere. Also keep in mind that the roads are full of uphills and downhills, up to 36% inclination.

        *****Weather*****

If you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes or just enter a road tunnel and at the end of it, you’ll find yourself in another season. You should know that Madeira has that perfect warm weather all year round. Temperatures in the summer rarely reach 35 degrees, and in the winter sometimes the temperature drops to 19 degrees 😂.

You should also know that Madeira can be rainy, but never one whole day; if it is raining in the morning, than the afternoon will be sunny, or the other way around. Also, don’t expect these temperatures to be the same when you go hiking on the top of the mountains. Trust me, from 28 degrees, in 30 minutes there were 5 degrees at Fanal Forest. So always have a spare hoodie and a rain jacket with you.

        ***** Grocery stores*****

As mentioned in Portugal – How to travel, the supermarket Continente can also be found in Madeira. The best part is that there is the same variety of products and the prices remain the same.
