Jordan - Floating in the Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is not just a place to go for a swim and sunbath. It’s an EXPERIENCE you cannot miss in Jordan. Actually, I could not even swim here. It’s so salty that, if you try to lay on your stomach to swim, your bottom will rise so high that you might hurt your neck while trying to keep your face out of the water 😅.

From Jordan you can see Israel just on the other side of the sea. It has a width of only 15 km and it is located at the lowest altitude in the World. There are people who swam from a side to the other (maybe on their backs, considering my own experience).

The Dead Sea is also called “The Sea of the Dead” because its salinity is so high that no living thing can actually live there. It is 10 times more salty than the water in the oceans, making it impossible to dive in it. In fact, it’s just a lake, but salty 🧂.

It was formed 2000 years ago when the sea level of the Mediteraneean Sea dropped. Basically, it’s a relic of the Mediteraneean. Also, every year the sea level drops by 1 meter which will soon result in the complete drying up of the sea. So hurry up if you want to live this unique experience of just floating with nothing else more than your body.

Just floating

It’s a really great feeling to enter the Dead Sea water. You’ll notice the water feels and looks very oily. I felt like I was doing some intensive hidratation treatment inside an immense body oil pool 😂. In the surroundings you’ll be able to find products containing Dead Sea minerals which are really good for your skin. I heard a comparation that said that if you’d take a glass of sea water, 3/4 of it would be salt and minerals. I found that pretty cool 😊.
