Sao Miguel - Welcome to Azores

Image
In our first day on Sao Miguel island, we were not able to do much, but we did not waste any time. We arrived at noon, rent the car and went to the hotel.  City center by night           Jardim Botanico Antonio Borges           We found a nice Botanical Garden which also had a pub where we ate two tasty salads and two portions of giant pancakes.  Jardim Natural Food & Coffee         Jardim Botanico Antonio Borges is free to entry and has beautiful species of huge trees. It's not big, but has beautiful paths to walk on and which introduced us to the Azorean environment. I didn't even arrive well and I was already overwhelmed at the sight of a duck mom and her toddlers. They just had a bath in the lake. The ducklings were clumsy and stumbling constantly, following their mommy. It was such a precious moment to witness.      ...

Tenerife - between dragons, butterflies and camels

Image
Icod de los Vinos is a beautiful little town located in the northwestern part of the island. We parked the car at  “Parking del drago” which costs 1,8€/h.           This place is known for hosting what has become the symbol of Tenerife island – the dragon tree 🐉 . What is so special about this dragon tree (species Dracaena draco) is that its age is estimated to be around 700-800 years. That’s where it got its name of Drago Milenario. It was declared a National Monument being the largest and longest known in the world of its kind.           The prices to see this dragon tree up close inside Drago park are: adult 5€, child 2.5€, seniors 3€. But you can also admire it from outside of the garden for free 😊.  There is a beautiful view of the whole garden from the Plaza Andres de Lorenzo Caceres.           Another unique experience that can be lived h...

Madeira day 5 - On top of the island

Image
Since we didn’t succeeded to visit Fanal Forest on our 3 rd day , we gave it a second chance today, but we took the risk and arrived there a little bit later than desired. Around 10:30 in the morning we arrived. There is a space that people use to park their car, but it cannot handle more than 5-6 cars. However, there was only one car there by the time we arrived. We were lucky enough to find the forest still in the fog. It was exactly how I imagined: a mistycal forest with old, weird-shaped trees. After a half an hour the fog disappeared and uncovered a beautiful green field with unique trees covered in the greenest moss. The atmosphere here was either a fairytale or a background of a horror movie 😊 ). We were so lucky to enjoy both of the sceneries.           The second stop was near Porto Moniz, at Ribeira da Janela. What I looked up to see here were the imposing rocks Ilheus da Ribeira da Janela. Since it is a...

Madeira - How to travel

Image
*****Travel conditions*****           Given the actual situation with Covid restrictions, the entrance in Madeira is conditioned by the completion of the epidemiological questionnaire which must be filled 12 up to 48 hours before boarding in the plane.           The other documents regarding Portugal entrance, can be found here (IC / passport, Covid vaccination certificate / Covid test), or by visiting your local Ministry of Foreign Affairs site, searching Madeira.           *****Transport*****           Being an island, it’s very hard to get vehicles. Therefore, you can either reserve a car rental, or you can use the local bus.            We opted to rent a car from Auto Rent a Car just to have that flexibility that it is offering you and to have it available at our own disposal anytime we w...
